History

Founded by a Coalition of Over 300 Central Vermont Citizens in 1994

The Vermont Granite Museum aims to preserve the stories and material culture of Barre’s granite industry. Since 1994, the community has worked relentlessly to salvage the historic Jones Brothers Company granite manufacturing plant and turn it into a museum. Shortly after its founding, the museum’s geographical focus was extended to include all of Vermont.

Construction and capital improvements are made every year to the museum. In addition to making improvements to the museum, its collections, and offerings, volunteers and staff host guests, give tours, design exhibits, create events, and teach workshops.
